Creating submenus in Joomla

On this page there is a short instruction how to create sub-menu items in Joomla.

When you install Joomla without any sample content, there is always one menu item activated (Home). We want to create some menu items and sub-items. This is how the menu item looks like in your admin.

Click on New to create a new menu item. Choose the menu type you want (blog, article etc,). Now there is only one different setting. Choose the main level of the item "Home" and not "Top". After saving the menu item you have created a sub item for Home.

As an example we have created more items. Also sub-items for sub-items etc. The structure in your admin looks like the image below. There is a little difference for joomla 1.5 en 1.6 how the sub-menus are displayed. The image below is for Joomla 1.5. Before the sub-items there is a bracket. In Joomla 1.6 the items also indent, but without a bracket.

Module settings

For each menu you have to apply module settings to default show or hide the sub-items. In the example menus the module setting is indicated.
